Diapason Pipes Installed
In Front

In its original installation, the great/choir open diapason was not enclosed.  To keep that bit of originality, the rank was installed in between and in front of the two enclosures.  It wasn't long before the need to enclose the rank was realized. Reducing the wind pressure and other means to make the rank more quiet just didn't work.

With the great/choir enclosure already occupied with the main chest and the harp, moving the open diapason into that enclosure was an awesome assignment.   The decision was to locate the diapason rank behind the harp with out moving the harp.

Resonators extending behind the harp require that the harp stand about two feet in front of the back wall.  Of course only the lowest notes of the harp have long resonators,  meaning that most of that two foot gap is empty.  With the long resonators on the right side and the short diapason pipes also on the right side, a dovetail scheme of relocating the diapason was planned.  To see the diapason in the new location, click here.
