AEOLIAN OPUS 1280

When initially installed in 1914, the Great/Choir division was located under the main staircase.  That chest is chromatic, and  the swell shades reflect the shape of the stairs.  Those shades have been retained and the chamber is seen left of the console.

The console has been placed upon a movable platform with sufficient cable to allow positioning in a twenty foot radius.  Directly behind the console is the unenclosed pedal division containing three ranks of pipes.  The tall pipes are in the Violone 16' rank.  The floor level inside the enclosures and in the pedal division is four feet lower than the main room floor.  Due to the hip roof design, the tallest pipes had to be close to the ridge line, thus this layout which is just a bit unusual.

The two enclosures are about 10' x 10' with an interior height of almost 14'.   The right enclosure is the swell division and the left enclosure is the great/choir division.  The acoustics of the room and the separation of the two enclosures give a keen definition of sound origin.  The low pedal notes develop fully in the area of the camera which is the normal seating area.  The organ sounds good in just about all locations with a genuine surround sound effect.

The concert grand piano is Mason & Hamlin, RCC36811, which is being restored.
