Your Server and Site

Your server is the business that provides you internet connection. When you sign up for connection to the internet, you may find that you are given some meg space for your homepage. It usually works out best to find a good local server as they will provide a novice with tech-help. My local server provides my internet connection as well as 50 meg of homepage space.

If you plan on using a lot of space for picture albums then it would be best to go with one of the free sites that allow space. Heartland at GeoCities has a section for genealogy. Mine is on RootsWeb. They began offering unlimited space in 2000. It is called Freepages.

To start your site, you will need to contact them to sign up. They will want you to select your username and a password. Then they will email you with the directions for connection. To contact the Freepages-Help-D list administrator, send mail to:
Freepages-Help-admin@rootsweb.com.
