Much money can be spent on some wonderful programs to build your website. Some sites
provide this service. Some folks hire others to build fantastic websites. There are people
who make their living building sites for others.
What we are looking at is a way for you to inexpensively build a site so you can share your
research with others. As a beginner, it doesn't need to be fancy. It needs to be simple
with the information expressed clearly. You can always go back later after you learn your way
around and add backgrounds and graphics. First you want to get your information out there.
There are some wonderful programs out there to help you build your website. Some will
practically build it for you without your ever learning to code it. I started with CuteHTML
to code my pages and CuteFTP to transfer the pages. So we are looking at a two-step
process to get your information on a site:
First you will type your information to give it the information about how it is going to
look when it is pulled up on the internet site.
Second, you will need to transfer that work to the server or host's site. This is the one
that places your information on the web. We use a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software.
You might decide to go to a store and purchase an HTML package that will do a lot of the work
for you. It will have the FTP included and a manual. If you decide to do that, it would
still be good to have an understanding of what is happening when the material is coded. If
you have a working knowledge of the simpler coding, you could still go in and change some
of the work that the automatic coder has done. I prefer to use simple coding instructions
and have control over how my material is displayed. It is just a matter of preference.
You can also obtain the software from a share-ware site. You can download it from the
internet, use it for a trial time, then send in the money - on an honor system. You can get
CuteHTML and CuteFTP this way. Go to: shareware.cnet.com and you will see a search near the
top of the page. Just do one at a time and put in CuteHTML and it will pull it up so you
can download it. Be sure to download the version that fits your version of Windows. After
that is finished, you will have saved it to your C drive (more than likely) and you can
click on the CuteHTML.exe file. That will pull up a purple window with install instructions.
Be sure to click on the box for the shortcut. Then go back to the search page for
shareware and do the same thing for CuteFTP. When you install CuteFTP, be sure to click the
box for Desk to Shortcut and Connection Wizard on initial Start-up. Then when you go back
to your desk-top, you will have an icon to click on to pull these up when you want to work.
So now you have your software ready to go. To learn how to get started with it, go to:
