Miscellaneous RCP Activities...

As I mentioned, the members of RCP  are a very close group.  We have been active with a lot of  community involvement over the years.  We also spend a lot of our off-time together, since we have all become such great friends.  When you are involved with this type of group, you tend to see each other in all lights...we see each other in the best of times and we are there for the worst also.  Our friendship is something that we will always treasure.

Our productions are done in the Auditorium.  For our entire history, we have done almost all of our productions in this building and a lot of our time, especially in the first few years, was spent in cleaning and fixing the building.  We cleaned, painted, just about everything we could, to make the place presentable.  And even when we were working, we still found reasons to laugh and have fun. The activities even involved our families.

Some of the things that RCP has participated in the past few years has been widely diverse.  We worked with the local hospital and law enforcement agency to help with a disaster drill.  There was a mock bus accident where students had been hurt and/or killed.  RCP did the makeup before the 'accident' occurred and then played the part of hysterical parents during the actual disaster.  Some of our kids played the parts of victims.

One year we did a radio show production of Orson Welles' 'The Hitchhiker'.  The performers did the sound affects just like they were done in the days of the radio shows.
We worked with a PBS station out of Warrensburg to shoot some footage for a 'Homes Tour' program.  Several of us scripted a program where we went back in time, then incorporated pictures and history of the local homes.  Various RCP members, in complete vintage costumes, took part in the production.

We have participated in local parades here in town.  A few years ago, we took part in the Heritage Days Parade and took first place in the float division.  (I always maintained we won because we showed more leg than the other participants.)

Several years ago, during the 4th of July events, there was a mud volleyball tournament held.  We decided, in a weak moment, to participate.  It was one of the coldest 4th of Julys we had in years and we about froze ourselves into muddy popsicles.  But we still had fun, even though we lost.  We had to be driven home afterwards in the back of a pickup because we were much too messy to get into any of our own vehicles.

In recent years, we have tried to attend Shakespeare in the Park held in Kansas City, as a group.  It is always a great time and a wonderful show.

Of course, one of our favorite 'holidays' has been Halloween.  Here we are at one of our parties.  Scary bunch, right?
