This is a piece that I made for my Mom for Christmas. It is solid ash, with a black cherry band around the top shelf. The back of the doored compartment is open to the wall, and it is hung with a "French" hanger. She has found this to be a very useful and sturdy shelf, and the cherry band will gradually darken and really accent the piece. It measures approximately 36"x16". It is finished with six coats of rubbed urethane and two coats of Rennaisance Wax buffed out with #0000 steel wool to kill the gloss. Pattern in Woodsmith magazine.
