Mother--I love you with all my heart.
If I would have gotten up that morning and rode with you and Steve to the hospital, I would have had my chance to say good-bye, but I didn't. A friend just passed away yesterday. Ben Cunningham, he was an 8th grader, but I knew him well. I just don't understand why just as things were getting back to normal, something like this has to happen. It kills me inside to see all those children crying and hurt. I know how they feel and I hate it because I can't do anything for them. I wish you were here for me to talk to, but you're not. I love you, and I know you're looking over me right now, and you will help me and Meg through this.
