Scattering Fork Outdoor Center has a new facility.
The 30'x40' enclosed pavilion greatly expands program possibilities and
numbers of participants as we look forward to continuing to serve
Audrain
County and the surrounding area. Groups/businesses with up to 100
participants
may use the building for short business/training or orientation
sessions
before joining our certified staff for a day of team building and
personal
challenge on the low or high team challenge courses. DECCA used this
facility
last September for a group of 70 North East Missouri students for their
election of district officers before going out on the low ropes course
for team building events. When completed in late March, the building
will
be fully equipped to handle your equipment for Powerpoint and/or video
presentations. Ceiling fans for hot times, a wood-burning fireplace for
the nippier days and an ADA accessible bathroom will complete the
services
available. Tables and chairs will be available for sit-down meetings.
Morning
storms will no longer be a deterrent to groups coming out because of
changes
in the weather. With our mobile teams kit we can set up any and all of
the low ropes events inside and proceed sans trees and trails. Not as
picturesque
but still very effective.
SFOC
has grown almost 30 percent in the past year in numbers of persons
participating.
1,390 individuals took part in activities and ranged in age from
prekindergarten
3- and 4-year-olds on nature walks , to mature adults participating in
team building on the challenge courses. We look forward to
increasing
the use of our facility in 2002. We open in March and close Nov. 1 each
year and are limited by extreme cold weather and wildlife hunting
seasons.
SFOC is a non-profit educatianal facility dedicated to
providing personal
growth through outdoor education and:
1) to develop a sense of self-worth and personal confidence,
2) increase communication, leadership and mutual support; and
3) Instill environmental awareness.
We use the high and low ropes courses, environmental
activities, developed
nature trails and even primitive overnight camping to build team spirit
and unity. Focusing on extending a group's ability to cooperate,
communicate
and develop trust, the program includes both mental.and physical
challenges
to the participants. Our part-time staff of 16 (counting both those
certified
for the low and/or high ropes courses) are trained to conduct teams
through
the events and focus on the safety of the participants as well as the
fun
and feeling of accomplishment for each individual.
We are looking for individuals who are interested in joining
our certified
staff and be trained in either high or low challenge courses or both.
We
will conduct a two-day (weekend) training for those who express an
interest.
Volunteers are always welcome to join our cadre of faithfuls. If anyone
really enjoys "kids" of all ages and being outside in the woods, do
call.
