We portray the 6th
SS Mountain Division (6.SS-Gebirgs Division) during the
years 1943-1945. The Division was formed in Norway in 1941,
but moved to France in late 1944. This gives us the option
of portraying both Eastern and Western Front activities. Our
focus is on the Motorized Rifle Battalion 6, which was later
reformed as a Panzer Grenadier Battalion 506.

The 353rd
Infantry portrays common German Wehrmacht soldiers from
1943-1945. Its emphasis is on public education about the
war by setting up public displays at about 10 events a
year, but also attend a handful of tactical events.
The
original division was made up of experienced veteran cadre
and new, young recruits. The division also had a regiment
worth of "Ost" troops, mostly made up of Russian
"volunteers." After its ranks were being badly
depleted in
the Normandy campaign, the unit rebuilt by absorbing with
Luftwaffe personnel, and units of Landerschutz (National
Guard) troops which ranged in age from 30-60. With these
troops they fought in the Hurtegen Forest and areas around
Aachen and Duren.
In 1945
the unit's replacements consisted mostly of poorly trained
and Volkstürm troops and local police units. These troops
made a last stand in the Ruhr Pocket in April 1945. The
divisional commander was also an outspoken anti-Nazi
officer.
